"FreeWilly Person",

So would you say a preacher is wrong to preach to people, "Repent!" Isn't that something they might do in response to the message preached?

I can almost see it now.
Bring them before the civil magistrates!
Why! Would crime have they done?
No crime something far worse!

What could be worse?
Heresy!
Heresy! That is very serious, serious enough to burn! What did they do?

They heard the message of Christ.
Yes! And did they blaspheme Him?
No! They repented!

Repented!!! You mean they thought there was something they had to do to be saved???
Yes! And they told me they believed too!
Believed too!!!

Where is the firewood how dare we allow such Arminians (whatever that means) to continue to breath.

by the way have you?
That's why,
Ye must be born again.

Lurker USA,
After rereading your post I apologize.
I should have been writing to Mike from PA.

And no you don't have to talk to me I should have paid more attention.

DB,
I am struggling a bit to put this into words so let me try the best I can.

Hell is so real and so awful that if it meant the difference between you or the worst of our "friends" going there I would willingly die knowing how undeserving I was to have Jesus Christ to die for me. Basically I would willing die for "my faith", really the faith God gave me through His Word and the conviction of the Holy Spirit.

On the other hand I seem to see a different belief that might say something like this "I would willingly see you put to death (by the civil magistrates that is) because your faith refutes my belief."

Now wonder some have trouble with John 3:16

Lurker USA,
It is NOT written
For God so loved the world that He gave His Only Begotten 5 Point Calvinism...

It is Not even written
For God so loved the "Elect" that He gave His Only Begotten 5 Point Calvinism...

either is it.

Yamil, DB,
I have to confess to you. Yamil please let MBL know too that I am impressed with someone like b.a. who humbly expresses her appreciation that God saved her from her sins.

Also with men like Spurgeon and Whitefield who preached that the lost might be saved.

Or someone like Ian Paisley or Alan Cairns, not perfect men, but men nevertheless who preach about holiness and prayer and revival.

Yes, I like men like Paul Washer and his "Shocking Youth Message" or Jim Berg and his message of "More Than Enough Hope" too. Why these men might not even be Calvinists.

But that is not the point. Don't we just have to appreciate those who are thankful to God Who gave His Only Begotten Son that Whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life?

Joe Calgary Alberta,
"I know the truth hurts...."
This part of your statement I highly agree with and it is here that you might want to do some reconsidering.

It hurt to realize how much I had sinned against God, against Jesus Christ and even today there are times when I fail Him and it about rips my heart out when I realize it and makes me want to cry out for His forgiveness like David did in Psalm 51.

b.a. has this kind of attitude but you and some who also hold to the 5 Points don't seem to at all, Why is that?

You give the impression that what is really serious, awful, deserving to be burned at the stake is not that we have sinned against Christ, breaking the 10 Commandment, living wickedly and vilely and every bit without excuse but that we have "sinned" against "Calvinism", there is quite a difference here, think.

And you want us to believe you are regenerated by the Holy Spirit?

If you speak with the tongues of men and of angels and hold not the beliefs of 5 point Calvinism you've become what?

Joe, you just might want to take another look a the CHANGE that happens in an individual when they are born again. If you aint changed you're still lost.

That's why,
Ye must be born again.

warren Holland,
The Holy Spirit will never lead a believer to bow to an idol. You are quite off in thinking Catholics are Christians and have the Holy Spirit in that while they know somethings about Jesus Christ they idolize Mary, pretend a lifeless piece of bread is Christ Himself physically present and worship it. And I could well go on since I am a former Catholic and was raised in such things.

As to wisdom you would do far better to study the Scriptures in their context and in the meaning of the words that God Himself gave them than to depend on Church Fathers who have proven to be quite fallible in their beliefs. Always start with Scripture and continue with Scripture and when all is said and done hold to Scripture.

This the Catholic Religion has not done. I simply cannot imagine Jesus nor any of the Apostles going to a pagan temple and worshipping or praying there and thereby giving the pagans the false impression their religion was somehow okay. NOT!

For that matter you say you are a Baptist when did you become born again? How did it happen? How has God changed your life?

Mike PA,
Is your problem really with Yamil how he intreprets Scripture or that you can't seem to bring him into bondage to your 'Calvinism'?

Maybe you just might want to do like the early followers of old John from Geneva and turn the likes of us over to the Civil Authorities?

Joe Calgary Alberta,
You all Calvinist are so cool!
Here you can all talk about things like synergism and monogrism (spelling?) and act like it just might be alright to put anyone who doesn't belief quite like you should be burned at the stake.

And for all your "theology" you cannot seem to get it right on John 3:16

"For God so loved the world that He gave His Only Begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

Some kind of "theology", think!

Let me make it clear I do not believe that Jesus nor the Apostles in the New Testament ever taught anything remotely close to burning heretics, let alone making excuses to burn brothers or sisters who refused to bow to your "theology."

Yamil Luciano,
Better watch out with your interpreting Scripture by Scripture belief there brother. It might not meet the approve of the religious leaders of Geneva and Dort.

And you know how "hot" the civil (not the religious, No! No way!) authorities can make it for you there.

Arthur, Joe Calgary Alberta, etc.
Try telling GG that I believe like Roman Catholics (Not!) You all do know that he is Roman Catholic, at least to the last of my knowledge.

Arthur,
Don't bear fruit of Calvinism? Thanks Don't really want to. After all Jesus said something different that realates to fruit. What to know what that is?

"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." Don't have to be a Calvinist to bear this kind of fruit do I? But like our friend Albert from Ireland says,

Ye must be born again.

Anyway by your comments would you turn me in to Dort or Geneva for the "proper" consequences at the hands of the civil government?

Discerned Believer,
He is not the Pastor I am thinking of then.

Has he ever told you about the Binghamton area? How it is heavily Catholic and heavily secular and many of the churches are ecumenical along with being seeker sensitive and purpose driven?

I got one of the local movers and shakers (a pastor) quite upset with me for among other things telling him it was wrong to invite Franklin Graham here because if a Roman Catholic comes forward at a "Billy Graham Crusade" the BGEA policy is to send them back to the Roman Catholic Church.

Mike from New York,
Fruit or Not would I have been labeled a heretic in Geneva or by Dort? and would they have burned me, executed me, seized my property, exiled me or what?

If so would this action have been right? Would it have been in accordance with the Bible?

Or just if you interpret the Bible a particular way?

By the way if I was living in a Roman Catholic Country at that time it is most likely they would have wanted to take my life for rejecting their Pope, etc. etc. and preaching along the lines of "The just (the man who God makes right with Himself) shall live by faith." along with Scripture not the Papacy has the authority of God Himself to instruct us in what we think, believe and how we are to live. I wonder how that would have gone over in Geneva and Dort too?

Arthur Scotland,
I'll not be too quick to buy into Dort, Thankyou.

After all "the decks where stacked" with Calvinists and therefore it is not suprising what came out was Calvinism.

As to personal testimony I live in the US and grew up a Yankee in the North before living in the South. This experience allowed me to appreciate how some people in the Civil War choose to fight against their brothers to free people of another race from slavery Because It Was Wrong!

While at the same time or in some instances today some people refuse to ever go against their own race even when they are quite wrong.

I believe we have both made comments to a certain individual who refuses to part with his beloved Roman Catholic Church even though he acknowledges many things he himself knows are wrong.

Arthur, I believe there is a significant difference between what we can see in Scripture of Jesus Christ and the apostles and the early Church and what they taught and how they lived and what we see today in the claims of Calvinism.

I am still learning in all this but thankfully by God's grace I have confidence I can trust His Word no matter what men might say.

Of course Benedict XVI want to build bridges with Muslims. Offically they worship the same "god".

Quote

From Catechism of the Catholic Church
Officially Approved by Pope John Paul II

841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. “The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.”

End of Quote

Apparently for all their "sacrd Tradition" and their supposed "apostolic succession" the leadership of the Roman Catholic Religion cannot get it right on who God is, He is NOT Allah, thankyou very much, and Allah is NOT the LORD, Jehovah, thankyou very much again.

But Satan apparently loves lies and has great power to deceive those who reject the authority of Scripture.
