The marriage of Boaz to Ruth and the birth of their son Obed provide a fitting exclamation point to the whole story. Having redeemed to himself a bride, Boaz began abiding with her. The birth of Obed brought a time of great joy not only to Boaz and Ruth but also to Naomi. God had never abandoned her, even though she had thought that He had dealt very bitterly with her. This story teaches us not to judge before the time of God's full intervention. The birth of Obed was the signal that God's purpose to bring the Redeemer into the world was on track. Boaz was older, and others may have concluded that he would never have a wife, let alone a son to continue in the line of Messiah. But God always knows what He is doing. Naomi had thought that there would never be comfort any more in her life. But she ended up caring for Obed, who would be as near to a grandson to her as she would ever know.
