Boaz moved to establish the agreement to buy Elimelech's inheritance from Naomi and to buy Ruth as his wife. Without any formal paperwork, he called on the elders and the people present at the gate of Bethlehem to be his witnesses that he had discharged all that was necessary to redeem all that was Elimelech's. He made it plain that he did not regard Ruth as something bitter that had to be swallowed in order for him to get Elimelech's land. In fact, it becomes apparent that Boaz had moved out of love to Ruth. His marriage with her was not to be out of necessity. It was to be the expression of his heart that led him to the act of redemption. In such a way, the Lord Jesus Christ went to Calvary to purchase for Himself a bride out of the love He bore for that bride.
