Londonderry Free Presbyterian Church
Rev Ian Brown
Dan Brown claims: "... The Merovingians founded Paris" (DVC, p.257).

This is patently not true!

Paris was founded by a Celtic people, the Gauls, and specifically the tribe of the Parisii, who "settled there between 250 and 200 B.C."

The city became part of the Roman Empire after it was conquered by Julius Caesar in 52 B.C. The Merovingians did not even exist at this time!

They appeared hundreds of years later, when the area was taken over by the Franks, a union of western Germanic tribes. These tribes migrated to Belgic Gaul about A.D. 200 to 250, and under King Clovis I (481-511), they seized control of the area now called France around 486.

The beginnings of the Merovingian lineage can be traced to King Merovech, who ruled from approximately 447 to 457 – long before the Franks entered the Paris region. It was his grandson, Clovis I, who chose the already existing city of Paris for his capital.

Rev Brown
Thank you for this research into the laughable idiocies of D Brown. May this sermon and your upcoming publication be mightily used as a witness to Bible truth in that Dan may be used as was Pharaoh to His glory.
(BTW - he's not a relation is he? )
