SERMON INFO
Nicodemus was the individual who came seeking to speak to the Lord Jesus Christ, early in His earthly ministry, under the cloak of darkness.

He evidently chose this time of day to approach Jesus Christ as he did not want or wish his fellow Pharisees to see him coming to speak with the one who was so routinely despised and rejected by the Jewish religious leadership.

Nicodemus was no ordinary individual. He was a religious ruler, v1 and also an eminent teacher, a Rabbi, among the Jews, v10.

There was something that stirred the interest of this man. The words that Christ spoke, and particularly the works which He performed, when in Jerusalem, for this first passover, had made a deep impression upon this ruler of the Jews, v2. While not willing to openly come and converse with the Saviour Nicodemus was determined to find some way whereby he might speak with Jesus Christ.

He wanted to discourse about spiritual things. No better subject could be contemplated yet no subject is more regularly neglected and avoided as this.

As emphasised at the close of the previous chapter the Lord knows what is in the heart of any man. He knew what was in the heart this man, Nicodemus. He knew exactly what he needed to hear.

Therefore before Nicodemus could develop any line of discussion the Lord Jesus challenges him with the words: Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God of God. The Saviour repeats them in another form in v7.

These words emphasis:
1. The Necessity of being born again.
2. The Nature of being born again.
3. The Reasonableness of being born again.
