To have the holy, lively oracles of God, in our own language, is the chiefest of all blessings that an individual, society or nation can experience. There are simply no greater blessings!
The possession of the Word of God was deemed the greatest privilege that was possessed by the Lord's chosen ancient people, Rom 3:1,2 state: What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.
Back in Moses' time this same truth was stated in a slightly different fashion. It is in the form of two questions: For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for? And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day? Deut 4:6,7. The simple answer is: None!
It is one thing to have the Word of God, it is another matter entirely what we do with these lively oracles. These verses deal with what we are to do with the Word of God when we have it. |
