The singular expression that Paul used in this text referred to faith in the blood of Jesus, the One Whom God set forth to be a propitiation. What does that striking Gospel phrase convey? It speaks of the total confidence of Christ's people in the efficacy of His atoning blood. It speaks of the benefits that believers enjoy now and forever, principally peace with God. And it speaks of the power of that blood, both as to its intention--the redemption of all those for whom it was shed--and as to its achievement. It is the means by which guilt is removed and by which souls are liberated from the bondage of sin.
