John's first epistle contains the sternest warnings against those who have the spirit of antichrist, and who seek to subvert the truth of the Gospel of Christ. At the same time, the inspired Apostle sought to encourage the followers of Christ as they faced the hatred of the world. His message to them was that the love of the Father had transformed them into the children of God, and that such a change was the cause for the world's animosity. As surely as the world has no point of common experience with or knowledge of Christ, so the world has no way of comprehending those who believe on Christ.
