Peter's point is that the more sure word of prophecy, more sure and objective than any recollection of any human experience, no matter how vivid that recollection may be, is the only source of spiritual light. Peter's exhortation is that anyone will do well, that is do the right thing and gain a benefit from it, by taking heed to the word of Scripture. There is light to enable understanding of the pilgrimage through the wilderness of this world and light to guide the people of God until the day breaks when Christ Himself shall appear.
