SERMON INFO
It was the testimony of all those who had gathered that day in the city of Capernaum that they been eyewitnesses of 'strange things'. These are the words recorded by Luke in v26 of this passage that we have read.

The word 'strange', v26, is the Greek word from which we get 'paradox' in English. Its accepted meaning is: 'something that is contrary to accepted opinion'.

This large crowd of eye witnesses were from the surrounding area of Capernaum. However, among them were Scribes, Pharisees and doctors of the law, which had come from every corner of the land of Israel to hear and the see this new teacher who had appeared on the scene, v17. Out of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem they have travelled to get a glimpse and catch the words of this individual.

These individuals had indeed seen a 'strange thing' which seemed to them to defy good logic and sense. A man who was sick of the palsy is commanded to arise from his bed and walk and makes his way home with his bed under his arm.

Allied to this physical healing were the words concerning forgiveness of sins which were spoken to him by the Lord Jesus. Man, thy sins are forgiven thee, are the precise words spoken to him as he lay upon the bed.

Is it any wonder that these onlookers were 'amazed' and 'glorified God', v26?
