Boaz occupied the place of a prophet as he delivered the good news of the Gospel in this text. Everything was built on the reality that Ruth had come to trust under the shadow of God's wings. She had only come to faith through the operation of the Holy Spirit in her soul. Thus, the good works to which Boaz referred were the manifestation of the reality of her faith. She separated herself from her old life and took her stand with the people of God. The fuzziness of the modern understanding yields to the reality in Scripture that the good works that Ruth did as a result of her faith were the reflection of her ability to adhere to the commands of God and in that way to advance in holiness.
