Peter's address to the Council at Jerusalem was designed to emphasize that Christianity was never to be based on any kind of works righteousness. He was stressing that the grace of God was to be the message of the apostles and that the message of grace was to be the means of preaching the Gospel to Jews and Gentiles. This message must continue to dominate the church's ministry in the 21st century. There is no room for human effort in securing the favor of God. There is only one way of salvation and it is not by developing various virtues. Salvation is not gained by ethical behavior. The service of Christ's people to their Master also takes place in the context of grace. Our labor for the Savior does not make us any more acceptable in the sight of God. We are accepted in the Person of Christ.
