But the reality is that Peter was not acting to condemn his brethren or to cast doubt on their professions of faith. Knowing the battle in which they would be engaged, he wanted them to be certain in their own minds that they not only professed faith in Christ but actually possessed faith in Christ. His point was that those who were truly called and elected of God would be evident by the manner in which they would continue in that faith all the way to the end, to their abundant entrance into the presence of Christ.
