SERMON INFO
The Lord's announcement to the disciples that there was a traitor among them left them astonished. It is apparent from their reaction that Judas Iscariot was so effective as a counterfeit disciple that not one of the others had the remotest suspicion that he could be the man of whom the Lord was speaking. He seemed the very embodiment of trustworthiness and friendliness. He was entrusted with the money bag and not even when the Lord identified him very specifically did the other disciples realize that he would be the betrayer. Only when they saw him in the Garden of Gethsemane leading the band of temple soldiers to arrest the Lord Jesus did the other disciples realize the way in which Judas had deceived them. In spite of all the preaching of the Lord Jesus Christ that Judas had heard and all the service for Christ in which he had been engaged, he never trusted Christ and determined to despise it all. It is a powerful message to those who have spent their time in the church but who have never felt the power of the Gospel in their hearts.
