The last decade of Horatius Bonar's life was remarkable in that he simply persevered. They were not years in which he was immune to heartache or controversy. But he longed to finish his course with joy. He continued to proclaim the gospel of the grace of God. Finally, though, the ravages of age brought him to the place of silence and waiting for the final battle. His legacy gives us a challenge to resolve to continue being "useful," as he put it, all the way to the end.
