'Forget Benny Hinn, go to the doctors instead'

by Richard Charan, South Bureau

Wednesday, May 10th 2006

The wife of the man who died soon after he was said to have been healed by American televangelist Benny Hinn seven years ago had this bit of advice for sick people who plan to attend Hinn's crusade this month: "Visit a doctor instead."

"Don't believe in any man. Believe that Jesus can help you," Molly Chance said on Monday.

Chance's ailing husband, Marcano Siewkumar, went to Hinn's crusade at the Queen's Park Savannah, Port of Spain in 1999.

Struggling to walk, he was chosen as one of the people to be healed that night, and was lifted onto the stage.

Hinn is returning to Trinidad for a three-day crusade from May 19.

Siewkumar, who suffered with heart disease, kidney failure and hypertension, was told he was healed.

The Siewkumar miracle as it was called was broadcast on a Christian television cable channel by Hinn who said he had cast out more demons in Trinidad than anywhere else he had preached.

Chance said her husband was bitter until his death, which came 33 days after the healing.

At her home in Douglas Trace, Barrackpore, Chance recalled: "When he came home, he believed he was healed. He walked off that stage without help. He felt real good. But three days later, he said we should take him to hospital."

She added: "My husband said the man didn't heal him."

Siewkumar, a 61-year-old cane farmer, was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, then Mt Hope, and died at the Port of Spain General Hospital.

His wife said: "He was Hindu. But he took Jesus when he started getting sick. But he should never have put his faith in Benny Hinn. If I get sick. I would not put my faith in Benny. I would put it in Jesus."

Chance said many people who listened to Hinn might be given false hope.

During his first visit Hinn also prayed for Prime Minister Patrick Manning who said in 2002 that the pastor had predicted his election victory.

Manning said then Government had contacted Hinn's representatives for a follow-up visit.

"If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit." (John 15:7)

"And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief; for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." (Matt 17:20)

"Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." (Matt 21:21-22)

Benny Hinn is a fraud and in the Old Testament he would have been stoned for being a false prophet. It is easy to blame a "lack of faith" for death or other problems in someones life, but you can't defend your position without doing injustice to the word of God. Jesus never promised that we would be healthy, wealthy and wise if we just had faith. Faith is given to us by the Father, it is not something we manifest in our selves-He is the author and finisher of our faith. So I suppose that since Benny Hinn has such great faith he will never die! And was it the apostle Paul's lack of faith that resulted in his thorn in the flesh not being removed? Just defend your Benny Hinn style take on faith with the Word! This poor man went to Hinn with much faith and Hinn scammed him and then the blame goes on the dead man-how incredibly Christ like of you Hinnities.

"Jesus Christ healed all that came to Him for healing, and He still heals today. The person that needs healing must have faith that Jesus will heal him/her."

So, if one is not healed, it is due to their lack of faith?

Jesus Christ healed all that came to Him for healing, and He still heals today. The person that needs healing must have faith that Jesus will heal him/her.

If people knew the Word of God and had spiritual discernment, they would know the difference between a charlaton and a true minister of God.

People are deceived because they do not wand to apply themselves to the Word of God and learn of Him.

Jesus warned that at the time of the end "Many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many." (Matt 24:11)

I believe the man lost faith in Jesus and died. He doubted and listened to those around him.
Benny Hinn is not responsible for his death. There are occasions when the health service actually kill people faster...and that is a fact!
My point is why blame Benny Hinn due to a lack of faith and resentment...to whom? God?

I agree 100% NO man should ever put there trust in anoter man EVER. Benny Hinn NEVER promotes HIMSELF as the person healing, the credit is always given to the Lord. Also at these crusades they never SELECT people to be healed. They do a sort of "alter call" and anyone is welcome to come up, some of which have been healed at there seats already. He speaks ONLY of the good works of the LORD...let me know of a time that he has given ANY credit to ANYONE ELSE.
