1. Characteristics of creation's condition. a. Romans 8 verse 20 "Vanity" - Vanity speaks of emptiness. Something not fulfilling its purpose. This day and age is now marked by emptiness and vanity, which was not Gods purpose. b. Romans 8 verse 21 "Bondage of corruption" - This creation is marked by decay. Even secular scientists agree that this creation is depleting, and coming to an end. An end which it can't escape. c. Romans 8 verse 22 "the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now." - Creation is expectant. Creation is waiting and straining "for the manifestations of the sons of God." - In the midst of pain, there is waiting with hope.
2. Cause of creation's condition. a. Romans 8 verse 20: "For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly...". This creature was subject to vanity involuntarily, from creations perspective. But, it is temporary. Man chose to rebel against God causing creation to "groan".
3. Conclusion of creation's condition. a. Romans 8 verse 21: "Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God." - Q. When will this deliverance happen? A. At the moment of our glorification. We also are groaning. (v 23). - Q. What does this deliverance entail? A. 2 Peter 3:10-13. The deliverance of this present creation, is a deliverance of purification and renewal. - Q. Who will know this deliverance? A. Those sons who know the glorious liberty of God.
Creation is indeed groaning from sin's vanity and bondage, but it is waiting for God and expecting His redemption.
