Some of the last words of Jonathan Edwards addressed the fears of those around him who considered his impending death to be a blow from which the cause of Christ in the American colonies would find it hard to recover. Edwards said to them that they should trust in God, and that then they would not need to be afraid. The prophet Isaiah made that very same point, and presents in this text the platform of theology and soteriology that enables the people of God to live without terror in the midst of a world dominated by terrorism.
