The Bible speaks on world leaders. In many cases today, our leaders are giving people the freedom to sin. Very often, this is a result of the people electing those who will let them sin. God's people, however, must realize that we must live in the light of what is to come, not what is happening now. So we should be praying for those in authority over us.
1. The prayer in verse 2 is a prayer for the church body
It is a good thing to pray privately where no one can hear you. However, it is also very important to pray as a church. This means both men and women. Prayer must always be an aspect of true biblical church life.
2. It is a prayer that arises within the general church burden
The church should feel moved to pray. The prayer of a church should never be dull. It should be lively. The prayer should be for all men, and not just believers or just the unsaved. It should not be for certain groups, but for all groups. God desires all to be saved, including our leaders.
3. It is a prayer that perceives the benefits of prayer
Prayer allows us to stand against evil without being punished for doing so because of its power. We are to pray for the salvation of our rulers. |
