In this message, we look at God's work concerning his people laid out in Romans. He foreknew, predestinated, called, justified, and glorified them. These things lead us to the question: "What shall we then say to these things?" (v. 31a) Then, there 5 more questions that follow after the main question and are the answer to the main question. The questions can be seen through 5 headings.
1. An uncomparable person
"If God be for us, who can be against us?" (v. 31b) God cannot be conquered, therefore His people cannot be conquered. No one can be against us.
2. An unlimited provision
"He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" (v. 32) God will give us all that we need because he already gave us the unlimited provision, His Son.
3. An unchangeable possession
"Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect?" (v. 33) No one can accuse us of unrighteousness because Christ has made us righteous. We hold that unchangeable protection of God from the accusations of the devil. God sees us as he sees his own dear Son.
4. An unchallengeable priesthood
"Who is he that condemneth?" (v. 34) Christ accomplished a complete and finished work that God is pleased with. Therefore, none can challenge what he has done by condemning us.
5. An unbreakable promise
"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?" (v. 35) God loves us because Christ was given for us. Christ's work can never be undone, so we cannot be separated from His love. |
