As the inspired Apostle Peter approached his own martyrdom for the cause of Christ, he was anxious to remind those to whom he had preached the Gospel of the great truths that they had already come to know. He wanted them to understand afresh that those truths lie at the bedrock of the Christian faith, and form the basis for Christian living. He placed his exhortation against the backdrop of three worlds--the world that God first made, the world that now exists, and the world that is yet to come--the new heavens and new earth in which will dwell righteousness.
