For nearly 2,000 years, the Church of Christ, of whatever denomination, held to the doctrine of headship and headcovering in 1 Corinthians 11. It was not until the mid-late 1800's when the authority of the Scriptures began to be undermined, that even in conservative Churches, some believers began to cast off their hats, believing headcovering a time-expired and culture-limited tradition. This has spread from church to church. Some, like the Free Presbyterian Church, maintain this doctrine. Tradition for or against will not hold theological water. Let us rather allow the Bible to speak to us on this issue, to which the Apostle devotes half a chapter of theological proof and explanation concerning Biblical Headship and its Expression in Public Worship by the Headcovering.
