One of the Bible's most famous texts presents the inbred inclination of sinners to depart from the living God. The text speaks of them going astray, each being governed by private opinion of what is best. The going astray is linked with iniquity so that even the slightest deviation from God's standard is judged to be iniquity. The mercy of the text is that Messiah came into the world to assume the burden of that iniquity. The LORD judged Messiah on that account and provided the way in which the wandering sheep can be brought back to Messiah's fold.
