The one aspect of the proceedings concerning Jesus of Nazareth before Pontius Pilate that tends to escape notice is the message sent to Pilate by his wife regarding a terrifying dream she had about Jesus. She was so shaken by the dream that she urged her husband to avoid passing any judgment on Jesus whom she called "that just man." It was Pilate's final warning not to commit the grossest miscarriage of justice in history. Even though he was already guilty of horrendous crimes, Pilate still received mercy from the Lord in this warning not to add to his considerable guilt.
