Pontius Pilate came face to face with the incarnate God but allowed certain political realities to influence him toward the grossest miscarriage of justice in human history. Though he had no reputation for being intimidated by the Jews, he felt in this case that he could not go against their wishes and retain his position. Desperately, he sought to clear himself of any blame, but Pilate, like all who spurn faith in Christ, found no way of escape.
