Midweek Bible Study. Leviticus Part 8.
In the first chapters of Leviticus we have the main 5 offerings .
Burnt offering Peace offering Meal offering Sin offering Trespass offering
All five offerings come up again for some examination, beginning at 6:8, focusing this time on what the priests must do.
The priests duties in relation to the Burnt Offering (6:8-13) A. The details for the priests in relation to the Burnt Offering (i) the fire on the altar was not to go out (v9/12/13) (ii) the ashes were to be removed from the altar
B. Lessons from the removal of the ashes (i) Christ's burial was a significant part of the story of redemption
(ii) God's people are to be holy
(iii) God's people are not to despise seemingly mundane labour
(iv) God's people are to declare the finished work of Christ
C. Lessons from the fire not allowed to go out (i) The fire of Hell is never put out
(ii) The burning fire showed the OT people the sacrifices were unending, they needed the once for all sacrifice.
(iii) Christ has satisfied justice
(iv) the power of God abides on Christ's church |
