SERMON INFO
These verses form part of the tenth and last post-resurrection appearance of the Saviour prior to His ascension back to heaven.

Mark's Gospel dealt with faith, baptism and the Apostolic gifts that were to be given to the Apostles. Luke take a somewhat different theme.

The first three Gospel writers each emphasis different aspects of this apostolic commission given by the Saviour.

Matthew, writing for the Jews, emphasised the divinity of Christ, His mediatorial kingdom and the doctrine of the Trinity in his record.

Mark, writing for the Roman world, emphasised the truth of Justification by faith alone. The can do mentality of the Romans doesn't work when it comes to personal salvation.

Luke is writing for the benefit of the Greek world. They had a long tradition and history of writing and language. Luke is going to emphasise the doctrine of holy Scripture.

Remember that these three cultures were each represented at the cross by virtue of the three languages that the superscription was written in - Hebrew, Latin & Greek.

This doctrine of holy Scripture is necessary because the preaching of Christ to the Greeks is foolishness. Here is the authority for preaching Christ and calling upon sinners to believe on Christ.

Consider the Apostolic Commission and the doctrine of holy Scripture.
