SERMON INFO
God knew that Israel had rebelled against him and it grieved him. And therefore, as a father would, he chastised his people for their sin. He did not simply ignore this rebellion– rather he afflicted them so that they would realise their sin and return to him – that’s the thrust of Isaiah 1:5-8 Israel had been smitten. Her country was desolate. Things were in poor shape. The nation was full of wounds and sores and misery and trouble: but that all happened in the providence of God – and it came upon them so that they would forsake their sin……. But the tragic thing was this: none of those events, calamities, divine interventions, turned the people of Israel from their sin. It didn’t seem to matter that God had smitten them or that they were miserable and wretched and destroyed and that they were on the verge of utter destruction and complete ruin and that because of their sin – they simply went on in sin. That’s the force of the question in v. 4* “Why should ye be stricken anymore, ye will revolt more and more?” – or literally, ye will increase your revolt more and more. The people of Israel were determined to go on in their sin….. and it happens to this day.

In this message we examine the fact that many persist in their sin against God.
