SERMON INFO
If you observe how Thanksgiving is celebrated today, you find it is about family, food, football, and Friday. How should Christians conduct themselves? We are not commanded to celebrate this day. Our liberty must be governed by the Word of God as opposed to tradition and family practice. The Pilgrims of 1621 were pious souls who acknowledged God provided for them. In 1789, Washington called on the nation to acknowledge the many signal favors of Almighty God. Thanksgiving without God is nonsense. Thanksgiving means you give thanks to someone. Matthew 6:11 guides in how to celebrate this day

1. Rejoice in God's provision
Who provides? God. We live in absolute dependence on God. The full shelves in US supermarkets tend to blind us to this truth. We don't pray this prayer but presume we will just get it. God is a provider (6:31-33)

How does God provide? He provides through means. Gen 3:19 are words of judgment but God in mercy still promises that they shall eat bread. God tells us to get bread through labor. We are not to be lazy.

What does God provide? He provides for our needs. As regards material things, we are best to ask God what he thinks are best for us.

2. Reflect on God's preservation
It is God's will that we would have bread and be preserved. We pray for our daily bread because we cannot boast of tomorrow. We have responsibility in preserve our lives. We should not engage in thing that will destroy the Body

3. Remember God's people
Give us "our" daily bread. God gives us bread that it may be shared. We are responsible for the needs of others.

4. Recall God's priority
This is the 4th petition. Hallowed be thy name and thy will be done come first
