In this parenthetical statement we learn that David was emerging as a leader of his people. He had analyzed the battle of Mt. Gilboa and determined that the reason for the loss pertained to the superior skill of the Philistines with their use of the bow. In order to compensate for this deficiency, therefore, he issued a directive that the children of Judah learn the use of the bow. In this study we look at this directive from David and consider how it applies to Christians today in their spiritual warfare.
