Chushanrishathaim here is described as the King of Mesopotamia. We know from archaeological evidence that the Mesopotamians had invaded Canaan several times even before the time of the Exodus. One of the possible meanings of that name Chushanrishathaim is that he was the ruler of two wicked kingdoms. He seems to have been a very powerful individual indeed. He was one of those who the Lord brought to prove Israel. But when those people learned to cry again to God the Lord sent them Othniel to be their deliverer. How we need to learn to cry to God for deliverance in this day in which wickedness reigns.
