BLOG ON: SERMON The Golden Compass—Warning!
Londonderry Free Presbyterian Church
Rev Ian Brown
Though Philip Pullman (atheist author responsible for the book, The Golden Compass), has been upfront in the expression of his atheism, stating, "My books are about killing God," this subversive statement did not deter those who distribute awards in the literary world.

- Pullman won the Carnegie Medal, Britain’s highest literary award for children’s books, for Northern Lights / The Golden Compass in 1995,

- became, in 2002, the first children's writer to win the UK's prestigious 'Whitbread Book of the Year' prize for the third novel in his series, The Amber Spyglass,

- and this year received the "Carnegie of Carnegies" - Northern Lights / The Golden Compass was voted the best children's book of the past 70 years.

- The series won popular acclaim in late 2003, taking third place in the BBC's 'Big Read' poll.

- Since the first book was published in 1995, more than 14 million copies have been sold - an undeniable testimony to their popularity.

- Already, book sales have rocketed 500% since the advertising for the film has begun!

The message of atheism is certainly being widely spread! We have good cause to fear for our children!
