BLOG ON: SERMON The Golden Compass—Warning!
Londonderry Free Presbyterian Church
Rev Ian Brown
A film based on the first book of this trilogy, The Golden Compass, was released on Wednesday, December 5, 2007, by New Line Cinema, the company behind another famous trilogy in recent memory, The Lord of the Rings.

It has already been billed by the 'Daily Mail' as, "This Year's Christmas Blockbuster."

It features such well known names in the movie industry as Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Sam Elliott and Eva Green and, in the estimate of:

* 'The Guardian,' is "Spectacular";

* and is rated by 'News of the World' as a, "Classic ... Outshines even the likes of Potter and Narnia."

Apparently, the attacks on organised religion that are readily seen in Pullman's books have been dumbed down for film to minimise offence.

However, we should not be complacent. The film is bait for the books!

Hook for the Book
Some have claimed that the movie was "watered down" to attract children to purchase the trilogy books as part of a deceitful stealth campaign.

"The movie has been toned down, but it is going to lead kids to read the book," 'Movieguide' publisher Ted Baehr told CBN News before describing the wickedness of 12-year-old Lyra.

Expect to see copies of The Golden Compass in every bookshop during the lead-up to Christmas! Unsuspecting parents who take their children to see the movie may be persuaded to buy the three books as a Christmas present. After all, what parent would turn down the opportunity to have their children pore over 1300 pages of text during the holiday season? And yet no parent who wishes to bring their children up in the faith of Christ will want anything to do with these books.

The truth is: Pullman's twin goals are to promote atheism and denigrate Christianity ... and his audience is children!

We need to be warned - and we need to warn others!!
