1 Corinthians 1:26, “For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.”

Selina Hastings, Countess of Huntingdon (1707 – 1791) was a noble English lady who played a prominent part in the 18th century revivals and was a close friend of George Whitefield and John Wesley. She used much of her wealth in establishing evangelical chapels and a Bible College in Wales. She died on the 17th June 1791. When a blood vessel ruptured in her body she knew her end was near and calmly said, “I shall go to my father tonight.”

Lady Selina once told John Wesley that she was saved by an “m”. Wesley wanted to know what she meant. She then quoted our text for today, “For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.” She went on to tell Wesley, “God says ‘not many noble are called’. He did not say not any.” For this she blessed God.

1 Peter 5:10, “But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”
