A Prayer Filed in Heaven

Luke 1:13, “But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.”

The prayer of Zacharias had been for a child and probably more specifically for a son. He was now old and probably had ceased praying about the matter. He maybe even had long forgotten his prayer. The Lord had not however, "Fear not Zacharias, thy prayer is heard. Thy wife, Elizabeth, shall bear thee a son."

Remember there is nothing too hard for the Lord. Perhaps some have long been praying for the new birth in their sons and daughters, but now despair that they shall ever be saved. He who gave the first birth, can give the second birth. Remember that nothing is too hard for the Lord. "Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened that it cannot save, neither His ear heavy that it cannot hear" (Isaiah 59:1). Therefore "wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart.”

"Prayers of faith are filed in heaven, and are not forgotten, though the thing prayed for is not presently given. Prayers made when we were young and coming into the world may be answered when we are old and going out of the world.” (Matthew Henry)
