A Place for the Lord

Psalms 132:5 “Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.”

Is the Lord getting His proper place in our lives? It was a concern of David the king to find the best place for the Lord. It ought to be our resolve that we not only find a place for the Lord but that He has the chief and highest place in our life. We can find a place quite easily for other things. There are places for family, for pleasure and for business, but is the Lord in His place?

The chorus comes to mind,

Room for Jesus, King of Glory!
Hasten now His Word obey;
Swing the heart’s door widely open,
Bid Him enter while you may.

The Lord found a place for you. He obtained a place for you in Himself, in the church, in His work and in Heaven with Him forever. Think of all the places the Lord has given us and all the places He has put us in. David could say, “He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me” (Psalm 18:19). “Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance” (Psalm 32:7). Moses said, “Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations” (Psalm 90:1).

“The first commandment is, "Thou shall have no other gods before me." This may well lead the van, and be set in the front of all the commandments, because it is the foundation of all true religion. The sum of this commandment is, that we should sanctify God in our hearts, and give him a precedence above all created beings” (Thomas Watson).
