“..let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon” (1 Corinthians 3:10).

Every Christian is a builder for the Lord. In order to God glorifying building we are warned to take heed. One way to help us do that is to keep before us our chief purpose in this world.

A man entered a great cathedral that was in the process of being erected in France. He surveyed the many workers and spoke to several. To them he asked the question, “what are you doing?” One man said, “I am making 25 francs an hour.” Another said, “I am building a wall.” A third said, “I am building a cathedral.”

A great temple is being built for God and by God. While it is true we are being built into the house as living stones, it is also true that we are building in the same house. We all have our duties and tasks in life. For the majority of us, as we serve God in a fallen world, our work is in many respects humble and ordinary. However we must keep in our minds the great objective, the great purpose in life. We must never forget that, “we are labourers together with God” (1 Corinthians 3:9). We are in the mission of building a great temple for God.

Child of God while you serve God humbly with lowly tasks keep your eye on the great purpose of God’s glory.

“I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?” (Nehemiah 6:3).
