You Need a Hand Today!

“Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope. Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe” Psalms 119:116-117).

Do you need a hand today? The truth is every Christian needs a hand. Well, there is no hand better than the Lord’s.

The Psalmist here implies how difficult and even how dangerous life is in this world for a believer. He seems to see himself as one prone to slipping and falling. He fears being overcome in the trials of life or in the assaults of the world and Satan. Perhaps he remembered his past falls. Such as the occasion when Satan provoked him and he numbered Israel.

Whatever his difficulties he has learned to seek the upholding hand of God. The Lord’s hand is strong and able. It is also kind, and best of all it is near to all that seek it.

David also knows that the Lord has promised to uphold all that trust in Him. That is why he says, “according to thy word.” Promises such as, Isaiah 41:10, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Hold the Lord tightly, but you are only safe when he holds you tightly.

“God has not promised to keep His people from afflictions, but to keep them from the hurt of them” (Edmund Calamy 1600-1666).
