Isaiah 63:9, “In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.” How the Lord feels towards His saints, and what great things He has done for His people! They are the constant care of His kind providence, carried daily in His arms, enfolded close to His bosom, the endless objects of His Divine love and pity. Sustained ceaselessly by Hs grace. He never will let you down. Has He done all this to drop you at the end? Afflicted for your sins and sympathetic with you in your afflictions. He has saved, loved, pitied, redeemed and carried you; He can never fail you.
“All the dark, intricate, puzzling providences at which we were sometimes so offended...we shall one day see to be to us, as the difficult passage through the wilderness was to Israel, "the right way to the city of habitation” (John Flavel 1627-1691).
