Promise of Divine Direction

“Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.” Isaiah 48:17.

Here is a promise of Divine guidance and direction.

The way that we should go is always the right way. That the way is difficult, thorny and troublesome are all secondary matters. That it is dark and lonely matters not, if we but know it is the right way. The only question to answer is, “Art thou convinced that it is the right way?” Never ask is it the easy way, or is it the quickest way, or is it the popular way. If it is right it is the way you should go.

This verse teaches that the way we should go is often a matter difficult for us to discover. We need divine leading to know it. The Lord is good He gives that leading to His people and he will never lead them in a wrong path.

If it is according to God’s Word, if it is clean and holy, if it is morally right and not contrary to His commandments, if it is to God’s glory, then it is the right course, it is the way we should go.

“Unless we deny our own will, we shall never do God’s will.” – Thomas Watson (1620-1686)
