Not trying to be argumentative, but how do Lutherans interpret the Second Commandment's meaning? It seems to me the Reformed confessions pretty much denounce images of God which I interpret would include images of Christ on the cross and as a babe in a manger. The Heidelberg Catechism is even more explicit as it says in Q & A of question 97: May we then not make any image at all? God cannot and may not be visibly portrayed in any way. Creatures may be portrayed, but God forbids us to make or have any images of them in order to worship them or to serve God through them.
Great Sermon Series! I've listened to both parts and found this series to be fascinating! I've long admired Pastor Trewhella's pro-life activism, but didn't realize he also has a love of Church History (which is really His-Story)and a true gift for relating the information to others in a style that's easy to follow and understand. I look forward to hearing and learning more! May the good Lord bless Pastor Trewhella and his ministry.
Dear Tim, May I suggest you listen to this sermon by Pastor Matthew Trewhella on how God's Kingdom expands in the earth: http://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?SID=55121951345 I think it might clear up some of the confusion you appear to have.
Barack Obama is a product of the liberal United Church of Christ. They are an apostate denomination that believes in abortion and teaches homosexuality is not sin. I live in a part of Illinois that has a UCC Church on almost every corner. They have almost ruined my community and our entire nation. May God grant them repentance. I have no respect for them or their leaders.
Great Sermon! Excellent preaching and sermon that addresses today's problems as well as examines the historical reformation teaching of the different spheres of government.
We will probably need to find a transcript of the President's speech to verify which Scriptures he used, but I think he also quoted or alluded to one in the New Testament. The problem was he then told how we as people need to unite, etc. His theology is that we can somehow overcome evil with no mention of serving Jesus Christ. His background is the apostate United Church of Christ, if anyone cares to research what he was taught at Jeremiah Wright's church in Chicago; it is a Christ-less gospel of humanism and stinks to high Heaven.
I agree with all the previous comments and want to point out that while I was sincerely praying for the President as he made his remarks last night and for the Lord's comfort for the parents/loved ones of those slain; I was extremely disappointed that instead of telling the audience to turn to the Lord Jesus Christ for strength and comfort, he gave a false gospel of humanism.
I admit to not reading all of this... but America's problems are much bigger than the removal of prayer from the government schools. Let's try repenting of the slaughter of millions of innocent babies in their mother's wombs for the last 40 years and our continual slap in the face of Jesus Christ by ignoring His Word and sending our children to the gov't schools for instruction in evolution and comprehensive sex ed., for starters.
I agree with missing link... Yesterday's evening news at NBC referred to this decision as having a similar impact for "gay" marriage as Roe v. Wade did for prenatal child-killing. If our nation doesn't have an explicit standard (God's Word), then it's going to continue it's downgrade into wickedness.
81% of the evangelical vote for Romney is still way too much, in my opinion. As long as evangelicals continue to support moderate anti-Christ candidates, this is exactly what the GOP leadership will continue to foist upon us. Time for a new party... How about the Christian Liberty Party?
Yes! By all means remove your children from the public schools... The local district will lose state aid for each child removed and you will have more parental control over what your child is exposed to on a daily basis.
I remember the controversy when West Point first admitted women in the late 1970's (?)... Well, we can see the rotten fruit that decision produced. Ugh! West Point at one time was respectable and produced men of the finest character... Sorry to see it snowballing its way to Sodom. My heart truly weeps at this terrible news.
Great Message! Excellent program! I think Kevin Swanson and Dave Buehner are right on target with what is ailing America and what steps can be taken for the future. My prayer is that many will listen to Generations Radio, turn to the Lord and seek His Kingdom and glory in all things as they reject the broken cisterns of this world. May the good Lord bless and keep Generations Radio available for the edification of His Church.
Hey Stand Up - I am entitled to my own opinions and beliefs... Praise the Lord my pastor and husband don't try to stamp them out. May the good Lord bless them both - they are much better than I deserve. I suppose if I lose my citizenship, the good Lord will make a way for my husband and me... Perhaps we'll move to Texas!
Does this mean I'll become an illegal alien several times over since I signed several petitions? Sorry, folks, but this prospect doesn't really scare me.
Folks, As a Christian and a volunteer with Christian Exodus and former campaign worker for Larry "Secede" Kilgore, I really feel the duty of cautioning those who have become interested in secession. America has enemies abroad and within who would like nothing better than to see our country dissolve into chaos and civil war. So, please proceed cautiously with the Bible as your guide. Do not believe some of the outrageous stories circulating on the internet like America's military was planning a coup, etc. Use discernment and common sense - and be a Berean (Sorry, not too sure about the spelling.) Now as far as signing the states rights and separation petitions at the White House website - hey, that's fine IMO as we are simply stating our disagreement with the way this nation is headed and, believe me, it gets the attention of legislators which is what we need.
