Very helpful. I graduated as a generalist ( Dr) and could have earned a huge salary. In those days I would have gone off sick rather than public speak. Well The Lord had other plans - i had a leading to do a short term ( locum) job as a child psychiatrist - and hated it ( his plan not mine - should never have been given the post as I had no qualifications back then). I have now completed professional qualifications and am working as a child psych - and The Lord ( not me) has led me into child protection and supernaturally gifted me with the ability to public speak and so am often talking and teaching my subject ( which I now supernaturally totally love and you are correct it defines me). And on a very frequent basis I commit career suicide as we don't have the resources and with my ( big mouth) gift - I can lobby for child care services in my area. So praise god with me that my part of the world was granted an extra £8 million in funding ( just found out this morning). Great sermon but would add that God can lead and sometimes leads in directions that we would hate but grow to love .... |

I have to agree with you ( the King James Bible also)- women must not have a teaching role on church. In my area I see lots of pastors wives call themselves pastor - and they are happy to stand in church and teach. This is simply not biblical. |

I have a tallit ( Jewish prayer shawl) and I would wear it as a covering to certain services - eg if I were at a messianic service where many ladies would wear a tallit also. My tallit has a blue banding that is specific for a lady ( compared to a make tallit). This is not legalistic but something thAt held me to focus on the God of the Jews and it will be my covering when I go home. Thank you for this sermon, it was very helpful discussion of hermeneutics. |

Re evangelising dodgy churches- I left my church ( baptist but dodgy in retrospect was going down the post modern route)- went to dead Anglican - managed it for two years but I have never managed to get back to church - there are too many dodgy churches but also found myself struggling to settle. This is a very relevant message as I know of many Christians that have done just this. |

I think this is one of those times when I have to disagree- I think that pastor monte has mis understood the messianic movement - I have been part of that movement for around 6 years and my witness is that Christian liberty is paramount - it celebrates the fact that Jewish believers and Christian believers are truly one body and that the old testiment is the basis for the new testiment. We celebrate the old testiment Jewish feasts not because we are earning our salvation but because they are biblical and fulfilled by out Jewish messiah. We worship the Jewish god Yweh- the sacrifice of Yeshua was the fulfilment of the law- in him ' it is finished' - dear pastor monte please research the messianic movement before you make such sweeping comments. You maybe suprised by what you find. As in all true movements of god - there will be immature believers and false professors but I challenge you on the fact that the messianic movement is taking believers back to the law- that is simply not true. |

I am in a church that the pastor was old and gave up fighting the continual pressures to let the world in, but wasn't quite retirement age so he hung on 5 years longer than he should have. Our pulpit committee worked hard to find someone who would remain strong in keeping the world out. Inspite of their best efforts, the man they hired told them what he knew they wanted to hear. Its been all down hill from there, including letting unsaved public school students do a Christmas concert for one of our church services. I have been on the internet trying to find someone with some preaching that has some meat to it. My dad who is a died in the wool fundamental independent baptist recommended Dr Cairns as his favorite preacher to listen to."He gets it right everytime". This was my first message, and it won't be the last. Finally, a good message. What I mean by that is it caused me to stop and think about where I am in my relationship to Christ. |
