SERMON INFO
The task committed to Jeremiah in his office as the Lord's prophet was one of the most difficult ever assigned to a mortal man. He was sent by the Lord to the kingdom of Judah to announce the imminent judgment of God upon that nation.
In this he did not differ from the prophets who had preceded him. He did differ from them, however, in that he lived to witness the fulfillment of his prophecy of desolation.
Jeremiah witnessed with his own eyes the invasion of the kingdom and the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonian army.
Jeremiah's ministry under these circumstances is viewed from three perspectives.
1: The severe hostility which he received from the people.
2: The sorrowful heartache he experienced in the exercice of his ministry.
3: The sustaining hand of God which upheld him and enabled him to be faithful to the end.
Jeremiah is both an example and encouragement for every servant of the Lord labouring under difficulty and discouragement.
