In Gen 24:57-58, we find a question posed to Rebekah, "Wilt thou go with this man?" This is a tremendous picture of the gospel:concerning the sinner's willingness to forsake their sin and come to Christ. Rebekah was willing to leave and go with this man. In the New Testament, "this man" often refers to the uniqueness of Christ. We want to look at occurrences of "this man" in relation to the Lord Jesus Christ.
1. Luke 23:4 - "I find no fault in this man."
The one who stood before Pilate was holy and pure and undefiled. He had no fault. He kept the law perfectly. Christ not only died for me but he lived for me. The record of the thief on the cross was "this man hath done nothing amiss." No mater what happens in life, remember that this man has no fault and will never do you wrong.
2. John 7:46 - "Never a man spake like this man"
There is power in his word as he healed the lame and raised the dead.. There is peace in his word as he still the storm. There are promises in his word to save and provide. Never a man spake like him.
3. Luke 15:2 - "This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them."
These religious leaders thought Christ would eat with them. The Pharisees were filled with their own righteousness and good works. You can sense the animosity they had toward other classes of people. Christ was showing the Pharisees that he is a friend to sinners, their best friend! He went to the cross to reconcile us to God. Christ is willing and able to save to the uttermost.
4. Heb 10:12 - "But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sin forever, sat down."
5. Mark 15:39 - "Truly this man was the Son of God."
