Back in 1999, ‘The Case Of The Moving Lighthouse' made headlines.
The lighthouse in question was the tallest in America, and one of the most famous in the world – Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, North Carolina.
Originally, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was 1500 ft from the shore. Erosion had brought the water within 150 ft. Therefore a decision was taken to move it inland. On its new site the lighthouse now serves as a museum.
The moving of this lighthouse illustrates a sad trend within evangelicalism today: the purpose is being changed and the light is burning dim!
Lighthouse keepers were originally known as “The Keeper of the Flame.”
Through the Witness we bear and the Word we share, we too must maintain the flame.
When the Cape Hatteras lighthouse was moved:
• Its purpose was changed. • It no longer provides guidance. • The original problem still exists.
