SERMON INFO
Who are we to select as elders?

We must select men who are eligible, willing, qualified, and able

1. We are to select men
This does to mean men are superior to women. This is about God's sovereignty to establish his church as he sees fit. It is not for us to reverse the ways of God. There is a pattern of male leadership in OT. Those who served Christ as apostles were male. The elder is to be the husband of one wife. That has to be a male.

2. We are to select eligible men
In the book of order there are some eligibility requirements to be an elder like needing to be in the church for a year and refraining from alcohol. There are some common sense measures we take. Eligibility does not mean you need to be a deacon first.

3. We are to select men who are willing
The text speaks of desire. Men are not obligated to do it. There is a willingness to do it. The Spirit works in men to give them a compulsion to serve.

4. We are to select men who are qualified

We will come back to the remaining two points in the following message

5. We are to select men who are able
