The letter to the Hebrews was written in the background of defection. Some Hebrews who had embraced Christianity had defected and turned again to Christless Judaism. The effect upon those who had remained loyal to Christ was most discouraging. Paul wrote the letter to explain the reason for such defection and also to encourage believers to remain stedfast, assuring them that he did not consider them to be apostates, as he was persauded better things of them, even those things that accompany salvation. In this first message in the series the focus is upon the subject of God's glorious salvation.
