On several occasions we read where God the Father speaks audibly concerning His Son.
The two most well-known occasions were at the Lord's Baptism and Transfiguration.
In John 12:28, we read:
'Father, glorify Thy Name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. '
We also read in Matthew 22:44
'The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit Thou on My right hand, till I make Thine enemies Thy footstool?'
In today's passage - Isaiah 53:11 - we read the Father's prophetic witness concerning His Son.
'He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied: by His knowledge shall My righteous servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities. '
But how do we know it is the Father speaking here ? Because of the words - 'My Righteous Servant' - The Lord Jesus was no-one's servant, but His Father's - and that only for the Work of Redemption which He carried out on earth.
The Rev Elliott looks at 'The Father's Prophetic Witness Concerning His Son,' under 4 main headings:
1. The Pain The Saviour Would Bear
2. The Prospect The Saviour Would Envisage
3. The Pleasure The Saviour Would Enjoy
4. The Purpose The Saviour Would Embrace
Rev Elliott returns to the series on the Book of 1st Samuel for the next Sunday, God Willing. |
