BLOG ON: SERMON Rescuing Families For Christ
Mourne Free Presbyterian Church
Rev. Colin Mercer
When David and his men returned to Ziklag they could never have imagined the scene that would confront them. When they left on their campaign of war, their wives and their children had been well but when they returned the entire city had been devastated by the enemy and the families had been taken. This was a tragedy of immense proportions. It was not that the Amalekites had only taken silver and gold; men’s animals and weapons; stolen their equipment and treasures – they had taken the wives and children captive. The enemy had succeeded in bringing havoc and ruin. David’s own offspring were in the hands of his ancient foes. The city had been burned, the people were in bondage and the entire scene was one of sheer desolation. This was an absolute tragedy. The enemy had triumphed and brought ruin to these many households! (Sadly a similar scene is played out in many homes. Is it not true that the great enemy of souls has succeeded in bringing ruin into many families? There is a generation that has been snatched by the devil and taken captive at his will; that is held by sin and ensnared in the entanglements of the world; that is far from God and close to hell; a generation that is under the power of the greatest enemy of their souls- the devil himself. Satan has come, like the Amalekites and snatched away a people for himself! That is the tragedy of all tragedies.
