On 23rd October 1641 an Irish rebellion broke out, resulting in the death of thousands of protestants. Some were crucified, others murdered quickly and at times in great numbers. Outsdie Newcastle Co. Down a number of Protestants were done to death at a bridge - later to have the title, "the bloody bridge."
